<p>A Fire Lieutenant is a work leader (crew-chief) responsible for directing and participating in the work of the crew of one piece of firefighting apparatus. Typically, the crew chief performs the following. Directs the crew in firefighting activities, working from specific orders from higher level supervisors at the scene; directs and participates in practice drills and training classes for the assigned crew; directs the crew in fire protection inspection functions; assigns crew members to station maintenance work such as cleaning equipment; prepares reports for the supervisor concerning fire runs, training, inspection, or other topics; and takes charge of all firefighting activities at the scene of a fire in the absence of the supervisor. Conducts recurrent proficiency training and OJT. Applies industry standards and accepted trade practices to perform tasks required to execute and accomplish emergency incident objectives and directions. Attends all training, instructs classes as required, and participates in the DoD Firefighter Certification Program and physical fitness programs. Exercises caution to avoid personal injury and property damage. Accountable for meeting the requirements of NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments and maintains the ability to pass physical fitness exam IAW NFPA 1500, and is subject to drug testing and background investigation. Conducts fire risk management surveys and company inspections. Provides fire safety training and education to the general public, soldiers and other members of the community. Conducts facility inspections and prepares pre-fire plans. Accountable for conducting fire inspections and fire safety programs. Effectively communicates in English both verbally and in writing. Position apparatus at emergency scenes strategically to maximize its effectiveness for fire suppression, rescue operations, and water supply, considering factors like structural stability, collapse zones, and overhead hazards. Operate fire pumps to supply water at the correct pressure and volume to attack lines, ensuring a continuous and reliable water supply for interior and exterior firefighting crews. Execute complex hydraulic calculations to account for friction loss, elevation, and appliance requirements, adjusting pump pressures accordingly to meet the demands of the incident. Deploy and operate aerial devices, such as ladders and platforms, for rescue, elevated water streams, ventilation, and overhaul operations, ensuring the stability and safety of the device at all times. Establish a secure and uninterrupted water supply by connecting to fire hydrants, drafting from static sources (lakes, pools, rivers), or coordinating water shuttle/tanker operations. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and operational readiness checks on assigned apparatus, including engine systems, pumps, aerial devices, fluid levels, and onboard equipment. Working Conditions : + + Must be capable of working in various weather conditions (i.e. humidity, rain/wet season, warm/hot, sunny). + The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases, or poor ventilation. Physical Requirements : + + Driver Operator/Firefighter must have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 45 lbs. and be able to collectively lift, carry, and balance patients who weigh in excess of 100 lbs. In addition, must have the ability to pull and reach with both hands; crawl, kneel, bend and climb; work outdoors in excessive heat or cold, high humidity or dry atmospheric conditions. + Firefighter/EMT will be exposed to lifting, pulling and numerous strenuous activities that paramedics face during medical response calls. Furthermore, the climate in which strenuous work activities will be required is extremely hot/humid or cold during certain parts of the year/time of day.
