Responsibilities Job Details / Position Summary The Aviation Support Equipment Technician diagnoses malfunctions repairs and maintains Support Equipment (SE); inspects and approves completed maintenance actions; troubleshoots discrepancies by studying drawings, wiring diagram schematics, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals, technical publications and historical maintenance actions. The Technician uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, and document maintenance actions. The Technician analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs SE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes and hand tools. Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical maintenance data sources. The Technician performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on SE by inspecting, testing and operating SE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. Services equipment with required fluids such as oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant and compressed air. The Technician also performs removal, disassembly, repair, cleaning, corrosion treatment, re-assembly and installation of malfunctioning CSE accessories and components, as well as stenciling and marking SE, storing, handling, labelling, using and disposing of hazardous materials and hazardous waste. The Technician prepares SE for preservation and mobility deployment. In addition to performing inspections and maintenance, the technician practices good housekeeping, Tool Control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety awareness. Description: • Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs according to publication/technical instructions and technical directives on all required support equipment. Determines requirements for repairs, modifications, and part replacements. May be required to verify/inspect work performed by other technicians for which he/she is qualified to perform.• Reviews, interprets, and applies maintenance procedures in support of assigned maintenance actions. Qualifications Education / Certifications: • High School Diploma • Must be able to obtain/maintain the following required certifications/qualifications: Applicable Support Equipment licensing: + “I” Level & “O” Level Tire & Wheel certification + Hydraulic Contamination certification + Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) qualification + Corrosion Prevention and Control and Aircraft Paint qualification + “I” Level Battery Maintenance certification Experience: • Five years of hands-on aviation ground support equipment maintenance experience preferred. A combination of formal education, technical schools, and practical experience may be substituted. • Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) 4790.2 or equivalent experience with Air Force Instruction 21-101 preferred. • Must have a working knowledge of first aid procedures to be used in an emergency. • Must have a strong knowledge base of aviation maintenance programs, processes, and procedures (example: Safety, Tool Control, HAZMAT, inspection programs, administrative requirements, support equipment, calibration/torque programs & procedures). Tool Control, HAZMAT, FOD, MetCal, etc…) as required by local policies. • Must be willing and able to comply with all program functional requirements to include but not limited to: The performance of “I” Level maintenance functions in support of In-Flight Refueling Reel/system maintenance, NLG & MLG Tire re-building, MLG Brake repair/rebuilding, Battery maintenance support, and Oxygen Regulator testing/repair. • Must be willing and able to deploy off-site as required to support Kuwait Air Force operations. • Must be willing to work flexible hours, to include day shift, night shift or weekend duty and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team as required. • Must have the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and follow instructions when directed on assigned tasks. • Have a strong knowledge base of intermediate level maintenance business practices and procedures • Must have skills and aptitude to cross train and/or support other maintenance technicians in completing assigned maintenance actions. • As a Subject Matter Expert, must be willing to perform in-depth research, troubleshoot, and perform “O” level, “I” level, and commercial level maintenance functions on all applicable SE systems and components necessary to return equipment to a Ready for Issue (RFI) status; this includes determining material requirements, researching part numbers, ordering, tracking, and receiving materials as required to facilitate SE inspections/repairs. • Must be able to communicate directly with the customer, pilots, air crew members, management, and maintenance personnel to gather and relay pertinent data/information necessary to ensure equipment is available to support aircraft launches and maintenance. • Must have an in-depth knowledge of applicable technical orders/job guides/publications—read, interpret, follow and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publications. • Must have an in-depth knowledge (aircraft/vehicle movement and safety/hazards) of flight line operations. • Must be able to overcome cultural differences and to think outside the box, innovate, and provide solutions to the many complex problems and obstacles associated with international contracting and desert climate operations. • Must perform as a team member, contributing to the success of the KC-130J / Common Support Equipment (CSE) Program. • Must be willing and able to work with hazardous materials and conduct specialty on-the-job training. • Must be dependable and timely in managing assigned tasks, perform consistent quality maintenance. • Must have a proven ability to work independently with minimal direction. Material & Equipment Directly Used Uses digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, diagnosing software, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools to analyze, diagnose, and repair applicable Support Equipment. Working Environment Environmental conditions are diverse and could range anywhere from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to an environment where inclement weather may subject individuals to severe changes in temperature, less than adequate lighting, dust and wind. On occasion individuals may be required to work in areas where high noise hazards will prevail, and hearing protection is required.
