Job Title:Transmission Line Engineer – OPGW / Fiber Optic (Power Systems)
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer with expertise in fiber optic systems to support the upgrade of a major transmission control centre in Egypt. The project includes the installation and rehabilitation of optical ground wire (OPGW) and underground fiber optic (UGFO) networks, forming a critical part of the telecommunications infrastructure supporting SCADA/EMS operations.
The role will contribute across design, procurement, and supervision of implementation, with a strong focus on fiber optic infrastructure within live transmission environments.
Key Responsibilities Support the design, specification, and implementation of OPGW and underground fiber optic (UGFO) systems Review technical designs, routing, and integration of fiber optic networks across transmission infrastructure Contribute to preparation of technical specifications and tender documentation for fiber optic works Support technical evaluation of bids and procurement activities Oversee installation of OPGW under live line conditions and UG fiber optic cable systems Review and participate in FAT and SAT processes for telecom and fiber systems Coordinate with SCADA/EMS and telecom teams to ensure proper system integration Monitor contractor performance, installation quality, and adherence to safety standards Support site surveys, route assessments, and verification of existing infrastructure Ensure compliance with relevant standards and best practices for fiber optic installation Support preparation of technical reports and project documentation
Requirements Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline Minimum 8 years’ experience in transmission line or telecom infrastructure projects Strong experience with:OPGW installation, including work under live line conditions Underground fiber optic cable (UGFO) systems Fiber optic network design and routing in transmission environments Experience working with utilities or transmission system operators Familiarity with telecom integration for SCADA/EMS systems is an advantage Experience working on EPC projects, including supervision of installation and commissioning Experience working in Africa, the Middle East, or similar environments is preferred Fluent in English Willingness to work on-site and travel across project locations as required
