General Responsibilities:

  1. Computer maintenance and associated limited area network activities.
  2. Oversees the installation, configuration and maintenance of networked information systems. Responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, repairing and ensuring optimal performance of the school district’s network, telecommunications and security systems.


Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Perform tasks requiring general or specialized computer skills or techniques requiring some decision making, and the ability to work independently as required.
  2. Able to install operating system software specifically modified to the location and use of the system.
  3. Perform installation of operating system software in specialized configurations and custom installations of specialized software.
  4. Assist in or perform computer maintenance including servers and special use systems.
  5. Perform Local Area Network troubleshooting and repair as directed.
  6. Configure laboratory environments for optimal performance with specialized software packages.
  7. Assist in equipment and software research and selection for district needs.
  8. Assist or perform specialized equipment configuration and maintenance.
  9. Ability to make general estimates of material needs.
  10. Assist in wire installation and termination in local and remote sites.
  11. Perform maintenance tasks within own specialty area, or as assigned.
  12. Perform hard drive formats and reinstallation of operating system software.
  13. Assist and perform computer maintenance tasks as directed under general supervision.
  14. Oversees the installation, configuration and maintenance of networked information systems.
  15. Design, setup, and configure complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.
  16. Maintain a thorough understanding of LAN and WAN.
  17. Assist in the design and support of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS, ether-channel (bonding), etc.
  18. Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning.
  19. Configure and install client and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network and telecommunication systems
  20. Maintain multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems, and regular maintenance of all schools and facilities.
  21. Manage assigned project and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
  22. Respond to inquiries to staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors, etc. to provide technical assistance and support.
  23. Responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, repairing and ensuring optimal performance of the school’s network, telecommunications and security systems.
  24. Supervise the administration of systems and servers related to network to ensure availability of services to authorized users.
  25. Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones, CCTV, and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.
  26. Complete documentation of all network-related configuration changes and issues within 48 hours of completing tasks.
  27. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business materials and information.
  28. Other duties as assigned from time to time by the IT Manager.




Skills


Soft Skills:

1.    Must possess a general computer and networking background.

2.    Must be able to assist in the maintenance and repair of computers and related equipment and able to perform tasks independently, follow oral and written direction, learn operating policies and procedures, comprehend written material and interpret and apply rules and instructions.

3.    Able to competently and professionally survey, design, implement, monitor and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks or related systems, software and equipment.

4.    Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work.

5.    Must possess the potential and initiative to upgrade computer maintenance skills through on-the-job training or by other means.

6.    Experience and advanced knowledge of commercial bandwidth concept development, deployment, and support.

7.    Experience and strong knowledge of voice, data, CCTV, and fiber concept development, deployment, and support.

8.     Experience and strong knowledge of IP telephony architecture including firewalls, IDS, VPNs, etc.
