Role Summary
The Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting HVAC systems across projects and service contracts. The role requires strong hands-on technical capability, particularly in VRF systems, and close coordination with engineers, supervisors, and clients to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Installation, Testing & Commissioning
- Install and commission HVAC systems, including VRF systems, chillers, AHUs, FCUs, split units, ducted systems, and ventilation equipment.
- Ensure all installation work complies with manufacturer specifications, approved drawings, project requirements, and safety standards.
- Carry out piping, wiring, ductwork installation, and control system integration as required.
- Regularly support testing, commissioning, balancing, and final handover of HVAC systems.
- Coordinate on-site activities with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure timely and accurate execution of work.
Maintenance, Repair & Troubleshooting
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems, with particular focus on VRF systems.
- Regularly diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and control system faults.
- Conduct system inspections, performance checks, and optimization activities to improve reliability and energy efficiency.
- Attend service calls and emergency breakdowns as required and restore system functionality within agreed timelines.
- Prepare service reports and maintenance documentation and follow up on corrective actions with supervisors and customers.
Quality, Compliance & Technical Support
- Carry out quality inspections on installation and maintenance work to ensure compliance with company standards and project specifications.
- Support pressure testing, vacuuming, and other quality control activities as required.
- Assist with commissioning reviews, rectification works, and performance assessments.
- Support warranty inspections, manufacturer audits, and technical evaluations when required.
Site Support & Additional Duties
- Conduct site surveys and feasibility assessments for new HVAC installations or system modifications.
- Support major overhauls, upgrades, and maintenance contract renewals when required.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project and service delivery.
- Provide technical support during critical deadlines or emergency situations as required.
Skills
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or technical certificate in HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration, or a related technical trade.
- 7–10 years of hands-on HVAC experience, with strong practical exposure to VRF systems.
- Manufacturer training certifications for VRF systems (e.g., Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Toshiba, Samsung); experience with chillers, AHUs, FCUs, and ventilation systems is an advantage.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Valid driving license is preferred.
Tools & Technical Skills
- Proficient in refrigeration tools such as manifold gauges, vacuum pumps, and recovery units.
- Skilled in the use of electrical testing instruments including multimeters, clamp meters, and insulation testers.
- Hands-on experience with piping, brazing, and ductwork tools.
- Ability to use HVAC diagnostic tools and manufacturer service software.
- Basic familiarity with ERP or service management systems.
