Head of English Department Location: Dubai, UAEWe are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of English Department to join a leading school in Dubai. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong academic leader who can drive teaching excellence, support staff development, and ensure high standards of curriculum delivery across the English department. Key Responsibilities Academic & Curriculum Leadership Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the English curriculum across relevant key stages. Develop and review schemes of work in line with the school’s curriculum framework and UAE educational standards. Ensure high-quality teaching and learning practices are consistently maintained across the department. Support rigorous preparation for external examinations such as GCSE and A-Levels where applicable. Staff Leadership & Development Manage, mentor, and support English teachers to enhance classroom performance and professional growth. Conduct lesson observations, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs. Foster a collaborative and high-performing departmental culture focused on continuous improvement. Student Achievement & Performance Monitor student progress and use assessment data to identify learning gaps and improvement opportunities. Implement targeted intervention strategies to raise attainment and improve outcomes. Promote a strong culture of reading, writing, and literacy development across all key stages. Department Operations & Resources Oversee departmental resources to ensure effective teaching and learning support. Manage the department budget and ensure resources are used efficiently. Maintain a well-organized, engaging, and high-quality learning environment within the department. Candidate Profile Bachelor’s degree in English Literature or a related field. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification is mandatory. Minimum 3–5 years of successful teaching experience, with proven experience in academic leadership or middle/senior leadership within a school setting. Strong understanding of international curricula such as British / BSO, IB, or US curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, improve academic outcomes, and drive departmental performance. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Why Join?
