JOB DESCRIPTION

Performs all drilling operation activities carried out on the derrick, rig floor, monkey board & around the well head, such as pulling out and running in drill pipes, operating, controlling, and maintaining mud circulating systems as well as inspecting derrick mast & reporting faulty equipment, assisting services companies efficiently, properly & in a timely manner considering the safety of personnel, environment & equipment to maximize drilling operation efficiency.

Roles & Responsibilities

Rig Operations:

Pull out and run in drill Pipe which Includes making drilling collar changes as requested, operating the elevators and rack sections of drill pipes, casing, tubing using a variety of hand tools, tongs, air winch, ropes and cat head, liaising closely with drilling team to ensure good co-ordination of efforts. Perform nippling up or down BOP Stack, wellhead equipment & prepare for testing equipment as requested by using the proper hand-tool to secure the well bore. Safely handles and operates drilling tools, machinery, and equipment under the guidance and direction of the Driller. Conducts regular inspections of the derrick and related equipment to ensure proper functioning, identify potential issues, and mitigate hazards. Secures the drilling pipe during the tripping process by attaching and detaching sections of the drill pipe as it is raised or lowered. Assists and relieves the Assistant Driller when operational conditions permit, ensuring continuity of drilling operations. Safely operates all monkey board/stabbing board equipment and tools, following proper safety procedures.

Mud Circulating System

Prepares and tests all mud-circulating equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and readiness for drilling operations. Takes responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the mud pumps and all associated equipment and systems. Maintains and operates all mud system equipment, including conducting mud mixing, and completes daily checklists for low and high-pressure mud systems to optimize rig performance, prevent leakage, and minimize downtime. Reads and interprets various gauges and meters related to mud mixing and mud pump systems, ensuring accurate monitoring and control of the mud system. Maintains a detailed logbook reflecting operating hours on mud pumps and records maintenance activities performed, contributing to proper documentation, and tracking of mud system operations. Notifies the Driller of any changes in fluid density or viscosity being used in the circulatory system to ensure accurate monitoring and control. Assists the cementing subcontractor representative during cementing operations as directed.

Working At Heights

Prepares & maintains all tools required for the Working at Height job and ensure their readiness prior to the job in compliance with the company Operations manual. Comply with the working height requirements while working on the mast, monkey board, and stabbing board and in addition, the Derrickman shall know the location of tethered tool kits.

Rig Move & Related Activities

Assist drill crew in preparing the rig for transportation, including removing all equipment and securing the rig structure. Assist rig move crew in securing and storing all equipment for loading and unloading onto transportation vehicles. Assist rig move crew in reassembling the rig at the new location, following the same procedures as during rigging up.

Housekeeping

Ensures that the work area is clean and orderly prepared, free of hazards prior to & upon completion of the work, task or repair. Disposes of debris as per the company’s hazardous material segregations policy and as per waste management policy taking into consideration the environmental & safety aspects. Ensures all mud tank and mud pump emergency escape routes, exits, walkways, stairways and doorways are free of obstacles and are in a satisfactory condition. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of the derrick, mast, and other equipment to ensure cleanliness and prevent equipment failure. Secures the current work area or operation before evacuating during an emergency or drill.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

Minimum education level required: High School or Vocational / Technical education. Minimum (2) years of working experience in land drilling and workover operations with reputable drilling contractors with a career history showing time served as a Roustabout and Floor Man. Preferred to have working experience on Onshore rigs.

Skills/Competencies Required

Working knowledge of the English language. Intermediate Mathematical skills “adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying”, drilling practice, drilling fluids. Situation Awareness/self-motivation, Teamwork, Time management / Managing work.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform extremely heavy work. Ability to work in extreme heights “does not suffer from Acrophobia”. Ability to work in closed areas “does not suffer from Claustrophobia”. Constantly climbing (stairs, ladders). Constantly pushing & pulling (up to and including 20 KG). Constantly bending, twisting and standing Ability to work outdoors under all extreme weather conditions (Noise / Humidity / Cold / Heat). Ability to work up to 12 hours/day during his shift.
