Job description

A Pasta Factory Quality Control Officer is responsible for ensuring that the pasta produced meets the company's quality standards and adheres to food safety regulations. Their duties can be broken down into three main areas:

Monitoring Production:

  • Visually inspecting pasta throughout the production process to identify any defects in shape, color, texture, or consistency.
  • Taking samples at various stages of production for laboratory testing. This may involve checking moisture content, cooking time, and potential contaminants.
  • Operating and maintaining quality control equipment, such as moisture meters and texture analyzers.

Maintaining Standards:

  • Reviewing and adhering to established quality control procedures and protocols.
  • Keeping detailed records of inspections, test results, and any non-conforming products.
  • Reporting any quality control issues to supervisors and working to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of new quality control procedures.

Ensuring Food Safety:

  • Following food safety regulations and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination.
  • Conducting sanitation checks on equipment and work areas.
  • Participating in pest control programs.
  • Monitoring allergen control procedures to ensure the safety of consumers with allergies.

Additionally, a Pasta Factory Quality Control Officer may:

  • Assist with the development of new pasta products.
  • Train production staff on quality control procedures.
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure they meet the company's quality standards for raw materials.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

1. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP): This internationally recognized certification demonstrates a strong understanding of identifying and controlling food safety hazards. It's a foundational requirement for many food manufacturers and a great starting point for quality controllers.

2. Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA): This is a series of certifications offered by the FSPCA, focusing on specific preventive control aspects within food safety. Examples include Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and Preventive Controls Lead Instructor (FSPCA Lead Trainer).

3. SQF (Safe Quality Food): This globally recognized certification program combines elements of HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and quality management systems.

4. FSSC 22000: This certification integrates elements of ISO 22000 (food safety management systems) with additional food safety requirements.

5. ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems: This internationally recognized standard focuses on building a quality management system within an organization. It emphasizes continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

6. Six Sigma: This methodology focuses on reducing defects and improving process efficiency. While not specific to food safety, it can be valuable for quality control in food manufacturing.

  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of pasta production processes (preferred).
  • Experience working in a quality control environment (preferred)
