  • Show an understanding of appropriate pedagogy and approach to Early Years teaching and learning and ensure that this is evident in daily classroom practice.
  • Know and understand the EPG curriculum according to the subject taught.
  • Plan and prepare lessons on the approved format in order to deliver the EPG Curriculum.
  • Identify opportunities for observations, record keeping and differentiation in Lesson Plans.
  • Identify clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes, with appropriate challenge and expectations.
  • Ensure all lessons have breadth and balance and follow the approved flow, including Carpet Times and Centers.
  • Use only approved resources to support the curriculum unless with prior approval from the Learning Leader.
  • Reflect on teaching and learning and record through checklists, observations, assessments, digital record keeping and on the Lesson Plan.
  • Prepare all materials prior to the lesson and ensure that the classroom is ready for learning with appropriate layout and resources.
  • Ensure all resources used are approved by EY Central including digital resources.  
  • Foster a professional and positive attitude to learning through personal demeanor and presentation.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among the children, safeguarding their health and safety. 
  • Use approved strategies for managing behavior and ensure that each child is secure in their understanding that the classroom is a safe space for all.
  • Ensure each lesson follows the approved structure i.e. Carpet Time, Centers, Reflection.
  • Organize and manage groups or individual children ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities.
  • Plan opportunities to develop the social, emotional and culturally aware aspects of children’s learning.
  • Ensure the Essential Question is visible for the children and that they understand what the learning of the lesson will be focused on.
  • Ensure all children participate in the lessons at a level they feel confident, not always a language-based response.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship, with clear communication with the Student Assistant to facilitate support for each child at the appropriate level. 


Skills

  • Educational background and/or experience in teaching is a must.
  • A love of children and a passion for teaching.
  • Creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm.
  • Understanding appropriate Early Years pedagogy and practices.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • Computer skills in using Microsoft Office, and other programs that serve pre-school purposes.
