General Surgery Registrar

  • To assess surgical patient on arrival at Emergency.
  • To do detailed clinical assessment of the patient on admission and to record it clearly in the patients’ medical records.
  • To plan and get all required investigators done as directed by the primary consultant.
  • To give appropriate instructions for preparation of patients pre-operatively.
  • To assist with surgery in the operation theatre.
  • To look after the post-operative care of patients.
  • To attend to surgical patients in the wards, take daily rounds and record progress in the patient records.
  • To do surgical duties as required by the department.
  • To assist other residents with ward procedures as and when required.
  • To assist surgical registrar in bedside procedures.
  • To comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required, which could include assisting medical colleagues throughout the hospital and acting as a resource for more junior colleagues.
  • To review patients on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care made at the beginning of the shift and inform the consultant of any issues or problems.
  • Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.
  • To cover Operating Room duties as assigned.
  • To respond to any adverse occurrences e.g. injuries, falls, sudden illnesses etc., suffered by patients, visitors or staff.
  • To contribute to quality improvement; risk management initiatives and policy development so that the overall Surgical Service is of the highest quality and reflective of best practice.
  • To participate in work related projects of Kuwait Hospital.
  •  To act and behave professionally and perform one’s duties in a manner that optimizes patient care and protects and enhances the reputation of Kuwait Hospital. To adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g. JCI, Code Blue, infection control, work hours and overtime.


Skills

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a General Surgery Registrar in Hospital Setting.
  • Current Certification and Kuwait MOH License is required.
  • Fellowship of the College of General Surgery is desirable.
  • Current Full Medical Council Registration
  • Completed Medical Degree, Ph.D., M.D., MBBS or equivalent.
  • Completed years of Specialized Medical Training.
  • Extensive skill, knowledge and experience.
